The “gates of hell” mean the authorities of hell, which are not permitted to hinder the progress of God’s church. "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18. ![]() “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4. ![]() The Bible speaks much about gates and gatekeepers. So, gates were the only entrances and exits into the city. In ancient times, cities were often guarded from enemies by high, thick walls. "And he set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord, so that no one who was in any way unclean should enter." 2 Chronicles 23:19. ![]()
